“Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” Clinical Trial

Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan is a healthy traditional drink made of curcuma (Curcuma domesticae) rhizome and others native ingredients.

A clinical trial was conducted by Department Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medical Faculty Universitas Padjadjaran Bandung and RSU Dr. Hasan Sadikin Banding to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan (KSDB) in preventing dymenorrhea (menstrual pain), leukorrhea (flour albus), and irregular periods.

METHODS

Subjects included in this study were females between the ages of 18 and 40 years old. Exclusion criteria consisted of: (a) those who were pregnant, (b) those using contraceptives and (c) those with systemic and gynecological disorder.

The study was a randomized double-blind trial. Treatment groups were given 1 bottle of Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan daily and the control group were given placebo daily. The study was conducted for 2 months.

The test parameters were:

  • Menstrual pain – crampy lower abdominal pain, sharp or aching paind that comes and goes, or possibly back pain.
  • Leukorrhea – a thick, whitish or yellowish vaginal discharge.
  • Irregular periods – irregular menstrual periods with intervals of less than 21 days or more than 35 days.

The intensity of menstrual pain was measured using Verbal Numerical Scale (VNS) with a scale range of 0 (no pain) to 10 (worst possible pain).

RESULTS

A. Effectiveness Study

Effectiveness of ”Kiranti Sehat Datag Bulan” in preventing menstrual pain is shown in Table 1. Regular consumption of ”Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” for 1 month significantly reduced the intensity of menstrual pain. Prolong consumption of ”Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” (up to 2 months) increased the percentage of subjects with no menstrual pain in treatment group (66%) compared to control group (9%).

”Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” was also significantly reduced the occurence of leukorrhea (Table 2). The percentage of subjects with leukorrhea symptoms in control group (78%) was reduced to 18% in treatment group after 2 months consumption.

However, ” Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” was not significantly overcome the irregular periods in both control and treatment groups.

B. Safety Study

The safety study on both treatment and control groups showed that there was no occurrence of liver and kidney functions disorders during treatments.

CONCLUSION:

The study established the effectiveness and safety of ”Kiranti Sehat Datang Bulan” in overcoming menstrual pain and leukorrhea.
